DIVINE LOVE When a soul aspires to escalate higher in the sky of spirituality, there can be several ways to realize the self. SAMVEG is one such path. Samveg is deep and undeterred Love for Parmatma and a strong yearning to be like Him, to attain Nirvana. Samveg is the inner urge of the soul to recognize and realize the true self (Atmatatva). In essence, Samveg fosters Samarpanta- a feeling of ardent devotion and unwavering faith. Samveg truly defines the emotions of detachment through attachment. Just as venom is the destroyer of venom, Love directed towards the Divine removes the thorns of attachment from the painful shackles of the world. Chandanbala epitomizes the ecstatic emotion of Samveg Bhaav...her life is an unmatched inspiration of Unconditional Surrender! A small room in the basement of a magnificent mansion housed a young and beautiful princess, who is torn between the glory of her past and the pain of her present. She is sitting all alone, watching the unwinding plot of karma. With eyes closed, she visualizes the loving face of her mother, affectionately caressing her head; her caring father showering his love upon her and the luxury and comforts of the palace. When she opens her eyes, she sees herself as a prisoner and experiences the torture of being bound with shackles! After three days of this anguish and turmoil, three days where she has survived without any food or water, there comes a moment which was going to change her life forever. Chandana’s heartbeat increases... she gets up and keeps gazing in the direction where she sees a Divine personality coming towards her. As that person comes closer and closer, Chandana finds herself sinking in the ocean of love flowing from those eyes...! Her existence starts melting into the stream of compassion in those eyes… the eyes of Parmatma Mahavir! Parmatma Mahavir was coming with an abhigraha (vow). Many months ago, He had set out to collect alms with one vow which had not yet been fulfilled and so Parmatma continued with his penance. When Chandanbala first saw Parmatma Mahavir, she could not deter her gaze from Him. Chandanbala realizes that he is her saviour, who shall liberate her from the clutches of rebirths and Karma. Chandanbala was waiting eagerly to offer food to Parmatma Mahavir However, after arriving so close to her, Parmatma turns his back and starts walking away. Anguish, pain, gloom and millions of thoughts cross Chandana’s mind. She calls out to Parmatma, “O Parmatma, the world has left me alone. However, will you too turn your back on me? Her emotions filled with utmost reverence and the agony in her vibrations compelled Parmatma to glance once again at her. He turned around to see a stream of tears flowing from Chandanas eyes. And then came the auspicious moment when Parmatma Mahavir arrived at Chandanbalas doorstep and she offered him some boiled black gram with immense love and devotion. His vow of thirteen conditions was fulfilled and thus the Lord, who had been fasting since the past five months and twenty-five days, ended his fast. Treading on the path of love, Chandana found eternal peace at Parmatma’s feet. She was in love with Parmatma. Her heart yearned for him. This unflinching love for Parmatma took her to the height of total surrender. Her attraction for Parmatma Mahavir was not physical, but a sublime connection glistening with purity. Her ardent desire was not to be WITH Him, but to be LIKE Him...to attain an inseparable Oneness with Him. Chandanbala experienced supreme bliss and contentment by drowning in the divine pool of Parmatma’s love which she could not experience amidst all the luxuries of the world. Parmatma Mahavir had not asked Chandanbala to renounce luxuries. He did not pursue her to tread on the path of liberation. But when Chandanbala experienced Samveg, she nonchalantly moved on towards the Parmatma, her thoughts were replete with Him and it reached an extent where her existence got coalesced with that of Mahavir. She did not make any efforts to break away from attachments and turn away from the familial ties of relationships. She simply endeavoured to incessantly love her Parmatma and increase her strength of surrender in every moment of her life. And it was this endeavour that filled her entire existence with an unfathomable urge of attaining oneness with the Divine… An urge which slowly and steadily washed away the traces of anger, ego, jealousy, deceit, hatred and all the negative qualities which bred in her soul since infinite time. As and when ChandanbalasSamarpanta towards Parmatma increased, her detachment from the world increased naturally. She accepted the restricted life of an ascetic and became a Sadhvi under the guidance of Parmatma Mahavir. Mahasati Chandanbala did not become one with Parmatma, she became Parmatma herself! Samveg marks the beginning of a silent and sublime journey which seems physically inactive, but is spiritually active. Parmatma may not be physically present with a devotee… Yet, a devotee’s entire existence is filled with Parmatma’s essence. True love, embellished with the jewels of faith, respect and total surrender transcends the attraction of the 5 senses defines Samveg Bhaav. And it is this unconditional love which fosters an inseparable oneness between Parmatma and the devotee. Samveg is the fuel that speeds up the progress of a seeker. It enhances the feeling of dedication and devotion, just as a lubricant increases the speed and efficiency of a machine. Knowledge can enhance the seekers intellect, but not the purity of his soul. Samveg assists a seeker to experience the depth of the knowledge he has attained, in every moment of his life. Itis the inception point on his journey to liberation, and takes him to the ultimate destination of Nirvana!
