DJ Bongi, aka Tshipi Mosweu was a simple girl from Loxion Mabopane and didn’t dream she would ever become a House DJ, but realized that she was born to be in the industry. DJ Bongi grew up listening to music, dancing to different kinds of songs and my favourite artist was the late Brenda Fassie. DJ Bongi never imagined that one day she would become a professional DJ. People used to call it a male dominated industry but she has proved them wrong. DJ Bongi started in 2007 when she received turntables to play vinyl records. She then started being the resident DJ of House 22 because of her taste in music selection. She has proved that she is analytical and can almost read the minds of the crowd when playing a track that that moves them. She has realized that music heals the soul and relieves people from all kinds of stress. It is a natural medicine. In 2008, DJ Bongi’s talent was recognized and she got an opportunity to play at Metro FM where she worked with the legend Segale Aldrin Mogotsi. She also played at YFM and other community Radio Stations. DJ Bongi has traveled to many places like Durban, Lichtenburg, Mafikeng, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Venda and many more. In 2009 she was chosen to entertain the people of South Africa at the Union Buildings during a Woman’s Day celebration. In 2010 she was also appointed alongside Ralf Gum at one of the FIFA world cup stadium to entertain soccer lovers with house music during half time and after the game. She has also played at many private and corporate functions. In 2010 she won the female DJ competition that was held at Tembisa (Element). The Judge was Black Coffee and also the crowed had an opportunity to judge. DJ Bongi was victorious and won the competition. This gave her an opportunity to be one of the best selected DJs to play at Soweto beach party. DJ Bongi is one of the few remaining DJs playing quality non-commercial house music. She has played alongside the big guys in the industry like Fresh, Christos, Vinny Da Vinci, Black Coffee, Mahota vs Vetkoek, Nasty Nev.
