DLYC Fleet #31 Report: June 20, 2013 DLYC Fleet #31’s 2013 sailing season started Memorial Day weekend with Ernie Diebal and George Sipel conducting an on shore and on the water “Lightning Lab” training session for the fleet. Though winds were very light, we did manage to sail one race of our traditional Memorial Day series with seven boats compeating. Ryan Mabie with parents Scott and Kathleen Mabie as crew took first place; Doug Tagsold, with Steve Cantrell and Gerry Urffer finished second; and Dave Liadlaw, with Irma David and Debbie David finished third. The conditions for the June 2nd races were quite different, with winds ranging between 15 and 20 knots. Three boats braved the breezy conditions and managed to sail four races. A tip of the hat is due to the skipper and crew of Tom Love’s boat who, after capsizing just after the start of the final race, were able to right their boat and sail it back to the club unassisted. Following the June 2nd races, the fleet members met at the cottage of Doug and Diane Tagsold for the presentation of the fleets 2012 sailing awards. Awards were presented as follow: Memorial Day Series – Dave Laidlaw Fourth of July Series – Dave Laidlaw Stay at Home Series 1st place - Doug Tagsold Stay at Home Series 2nd place- Ryan Mabie Stay at Home Series 3rd place- Bill Rogge Commodore Series- Doug Tagsold Captain Series –Ryan Mabie Labor Day Series- Craig Gabel Fleet Champion -Dave Laidlaw Fleet Champion Runner Up –Doug Tagsold Forrest Hauck Regatta Award –Craig Gabel DLYC Auxiliary Female Sailor Award – Lisa Thomas Board of Governor’s Award – Merrill Bales Sportsmanship Award- Geoff Moehl Best Crew- Irma David Novice Award – Tom Love Chris Tibbs First Mate Award- Kathy Love Jack Beal Participation Award- Jeff Clemes Fleet Captain – Doug Tagsold
