DM CALLS MEETING WITH PVT SCHOOLS Srinagar, June 11: Prompted by the complaints of the parent community that the leading English medium schools in the City were taking them for a ride, the District Magistrate Srinagar Er Farooq Ahmed Shah is understood to have directed the concerned educational institutions toattend a meeting at his office chambers in the coming days. Sources said the DM has taken a serious note of the public complaints and would hold a threadbare discussion with the school authorities. Apart from complaints that the schoolbags are heavy and children have to do “lot of troublesome homework like projects for which they need involvement of their parents everyday”, the private schools this year have introduced “complicated admission procedure.” Apart from birth certificate, the parents have been asked to submit hospital delivery certificate of child’s mother. Moreover as per the complainants, the admission forms are being issued only for a day that too to a few people against the big number of aspirants. The aspirants said issuance of forms shouldn’t be “cumbersome and intriguingly restricted to a daylong heckling exercise but made easy as happens elsewhere in the country.” “Directives to procure particular stationery from a particular shop is almost a routine and that huge amount is to be spent unnecessarily which somehow benefits the school-vendor nexus,” the parents have been saying adding “schools lack proper complaint redressal system and take us for a ride.” “Though theses schools have remained popular for the services in the past, they cannot take us for a ride because of their erring behaviour,” the parents recently appealed the DM. “By virtues of powers vested in the chair, the DM can act tough against the erring schools and they can lose their registration certificates,” said a retired official. The parent community, on the other hand, has been accusing the Directorate of School Education Kashmir of “unduly patronizing the leading schools ahead of the admission season”.
