DMICDC to give major boost to manufacturing in Maharashtra and Gujarat Aurangabad, Oct 3 (KNN) In an effort to boost manufacturing units of Maharashtra and Gujarat, Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (DMICDC) has plans to develop an integrated township in the two states, as part of the DMIC project. The industrial township will be developed in the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area near Aurangabad in Maharashtra and Sanand in Gujarat. The broad vision for these industrial areas is to showcase Maharashtra’s and Gujarat’s leading manufacturing industries’ with integrated smart growth within a new sustainable township. The industrial township will identify high-value manufactured products with high export potential and maintain a unique cultural heritage along with providing a healthy quality of life. “The Government of India has envisaged the development of DMIC along the alignment of proposed Multi-modal High Axle Load Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) between Delhi and Mumbai, covering an overall length of 1,483 km,” said an official notification. DMICDC is a special purpose company, incorporated to establish, promote and facilitate development of DMIC Project. “The rail connectivity is a critical requirement for developing these logistics parks…,” the notification said. In this context, DMICDC has invited bids from consultants to prepare a master plan and a preliminary design report. The consultant should adopt the best engineering practices, so that a most modern integrated industrial township is delivered on time, following the principle of smart cities. Aurangabad has significant potential for growth in various manufacturing sectors. The district is already an established location for automobile and automobile-related manufacturing. “Aurangabad will be the showcase for Maharashtra’s strengths in manufacturing and technology— automobiles, textiles, apparel, consumer durables, and green industry. It will be the next sought after trade city, venue for manufacturing-related research and design, and high-tech hub centrally located within the state,” DMIC said in a notification. The strategic location of the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area places it at the convergence of Maharashtra’s production, manufacturing, and tourism (historic sites). The industrial area also has the potential to become a niche for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions. It is expected to be well connected by roads, rail, and air and will have good connectivity to the ports. The Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area will spur demand for a wide array of spin-off businesses and will offer the full array of services required for a mega-scale industrial park and the communities located within it. As such, the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area is expected to generate huge employment and to add value and exports to the Aurangabad District and Maharashtra as a whole. Meanwhile, the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) is developing an industrial area in Sanand and Mandal-Becharaji SIR. In Sanand, the GIDC estate has an area of about 5280 Ha and presence of anchor industries like Tata Nano and Ford. The development of a logistics park has been proposed at Transport Nagar, which is presently in the planning stage. In addition, in the near district, Mandal-Becharaji, a Special Investment Region is also being developed by the State Government. This region is also witnessing a lot of development potential and has been taken up for development on fast track basis with anchor Industries like Maruti Suzuki planning their manufacturing set up besides the upcoming Japan Industrial Township.
