DNA experts indict all 4 accused in Tabinda Gani rape and murder case Srinagar: In a significant development, the Chandigarh based Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) has confirmed the involvement of all the four accused in the Tabinda Gani rape and murder case. All the four accused are already in the custody of police. Senior Prosecuting Officer Ghulam Mohammad Shah Wednesday said a senior DNA expert of FSL Chandigarh, Dr Sanjeeve has revealed in the sessions court at Kupwara that the blood samples collected from the clothes of the deceased during the post-mortem match the DNA of all the four accused against whom the trial is on. “There were 84 witnesses in the case among whom 84 have recorded their statements. The then SHO Handwara Syed Fayaz Ahmad has recorded his statement for the fourth time recently.” Shah told KNS. “The DNA expert from FSL Chandigarh Dr. Sanjeeve has mentioned in his statement that the samples collected from Tabinda’s body did resemble the samples of the four held in the case”, said Shah. Meanwhile the sessions Court Kupwara has fixed June 12 as the next date of hearing in the case. However, according to reports the court could not record the statements of FSL director Mr Bhagat and senior scientific officer Shabir Ahmad on Wednesday. The case under FIR No. 152/20-07-2007 was lodged against Azhar Mir S/o Gul Mir R/O Langeth, Sadiq Mir,Suresh Mochi R/o Rajasthan, and Jahangir Bihari R/owest Bengal undersections363/369/302/376-B. All the accused have been bookedin connection with rape and murder of an 8th class student, Tabinda Gani in July 2007. The incident had rocked the entire valley particularly the northern district of Kupwara which witnessed large scale protests demanding severe punishment to the culprits. The protests had even shaken the then Ghulam Nabi Azad led Government which announced aRs one lakh reward for those who would help authorities in identifying the culprits. However the family of 13 year old Tabinda had refused to take ex-gratia relief from then government. “Gulam Nabi Azad had even announced free scholarship for my two sons’ studies, but I did not wait for it. My children would have been illiterate had I taken the offer”, Tabinda’s father Abdul Gani Shah told KNS. (KNS)
