DNA has taken my genealogical study in a whole new direction on - TopicsExpress

DNA has taken my genealogical study in a whole new direction on both my maternal & paternal lines. On my paternal side, Germain Doucet, Sr. b. ca. 1595 is my ancestor, however DNA has shown that his son Germain Doucet, Jr. b. 1641 was not his biological child. My dads Y-DNA says we belong to the C-P39 Haplogroup, which is Native American and not a European Haplogroup that brother Pierre Doucets descendants carry. A cousins Y-DNA on my moms Smith family leads us to a Scandinavian ancestry. I am waiting for my mtdna results to see if they agree with the paper trail. My earliest documented ancestor on my female ancestry was Anne Guerin who married Pierre Colon. The majority of my ancestral lines were Acadian with surnames of (paternal) Doucet, Thibodeaux, Bergeron, Matte, LeJeune, LeBoeuf, Lacasse, Hebert, Richard, Dugas, Bellard, Theriot, to name a few. (maternal) Thibodeaux, Leger, Daigle, Doucet, LeJeune, Boutin, Savoie, Pinet, Bellard, Theriot, many of the same lines as my paternal. Both of my grandmothers were Thibodeaux and I descend from Pierre Thibodeaux and Jeanne Theriot some nine or ten ways. DNA has shown that at least 4 lines of my ancestry were Native American. We had NO idea because this was not part of my families oral tradition. I find it all fascinating and couldnt be prouder of my ancestry.
