DNA testing One of our members has had a lot of success using DNA testing to help with his family history research. A sale at one of the DNA testing companies is ending in a couple of days (26th July). Maybe you can comment below about your experiences of using DNA for family history? A quick google search shows that it costs about £65 now compared to £188. Are you tempted to try this out? Would love to know how you get on. “Family Tree DNA are one of the leading companies to test your DNA. If you take a test they analyse your sample and give you a list of your matches a few weeks later. As new people test you get new matches all the time and the company emails you notifications. Y-DNA tests can only be taken by men who want to find out about their surname line. Family finder tests can be taken by anyone and are very useful to help trace relatives who you match with within the last 7 generations (up to 5th cousins). The family finder test is normally $289 and reduced to $99, the cheapest this test has ever been. There are no additional fees to stay on the database, it’s a one off purchase.” (Many thanks to Martin for writing this) #genealogy #FamilyHistory #dna
