DO I HAVE THE RIGHT TO “FILL IN THE GAPS”? There are some among us who see a large area of potential church and personal activity that has not been explored by either God or man. In this realm, which they choose to identify as “neutral”, rather than forbidden, they assert that God is “friendly” toward man choosing his own way – and many do, in both individual and collective matters. Does it surprise you that virtually ALL our disagreements and conflicts arise from that same realm? What would really be surprising would be if God – in full knowledge (He does know everything, you know) -- would be content to withhold HIS input in this area to allow man to decide what would be good here, that somehow He condoned a realm where men have the right to “guess” whether they please Him or not. But, assuming there is actually an unexplored reservoir of untapped possibilities just waiting being selected by men, is it Gods way to give men the prerogative of deciding what they can do or not do? Why should I think that I am the one with the ability or insight to propose activities which prove to be contentious? It is a proven fact that God “tests” us – and one thing we must prove to Him is that we “fear” Him (Gen 12:22). How does introducing things He has not approved prove THAT? (acb)
