DO MIRACLES HAPPEN TODAY? It was around 1984, give or take a year. Phillip was in maybe the 5th or 6th grade. He and a friend were playing with a bbgun. They were shoooting a flattened out tin can they had placed against a tree. A shot ricocheted and hit Phil right above the eye. His eye was stinging and starting to get uncomfortable. We called the Oceana Medical Clinic and had a PA meet us there; this happened on the weekend. He looked at Phils eye and it was starting to turn red. He said he thought something was in the eye. He called the Raleigh Genertal Hospital and had an optometrist meet us at the emergency room. He examined Phil and took xrays. He showed us xrays of a bb that was behind his eye. We were informed that if it stayed there it could sever his optic nerve and cause blindness or even possibly create swelling or internal bleeding that would lead to his death. The bb had entered in his upper eyelash area. The doctor had an instrument similar to an eyelash curler that he put under his eyelids and lifted them up. According to the xrays the bb was moving around. He tried several times to lift up his eyelids, in hopes that it might come back out where it entered. This never happened. The optometrist told Gloria that he had tried to find it several times with the instrument, but it just would not come out. He said they would keep him in the hospital overnight and operate on him in the morning. It had to come out. He had given up on using the instrument to find it. The doctor left then Gloria looked up at me and said lets pray. There were several people in the area and I was a little intemidated. I had heard a tv preacher say that it is the Christans world and we need to be bold and take dominion. I had only been saved 2 or 3 years but I knew God was on our side. Gloria was a little too excited and I started leading in prayer. I did look around and everyone was staring at us. We prayed and the doctor came back out and said he dicided to try just one more time to find it. He opened up his eye and the bb fell out, but that is not the end of the story. The bb had entered in his upper eyelid and his upper eyelid had split about a quarter inch or so. He said that he would still need to operate on Phil because if he did not the eyelid would not grow back on its own. It would have a space in it and it would be dry in that area when he batted his eyes. The doctors report was, It had to be done and he would need to stay in the hospital for 4 or 5 days. Phil and Gloria stayed in the hospital overnight and I went back on Monday with Steve to visit Phil and Gloria. When I got there Gloria asked me where I had been, she said Phillip had been released early that morning. I expalined to her that the doctors report was that he would need to be operated on and he would be in the hospital for 4 or 5 days. She said the doctor came in early that morning and stated that he did not know what happened, but it had healed itself. How about that?
