To celebrate, the Equal Pay Today! Campaign is hosting a TWITTER CHAT at 1:00 EDT (12:00 p.m. CDT/11:00 a.m. MDT/10:00 a.m. PDT) to discuss a problem affecting women across the United States: the gender wage gap. Women earn on average only 77 cents for every dollar paid to men. The gap varies by race, by occupation, by education level, and by state, but it persists in nearly every industry in the country. The EPT! Campaign is a nationwide, federal and state-based campaign working to close the gender wage gap by addressing the many causes of pay inequality, including discrimination against pregnant workers and new mothers, lack of paid family/sick leave, pay secrecy, and occupational segregation. Because the gender wage gap exists in every state in the nation, the Equal Pay Today! Campaign is targeting the Governors of all fifty states.
