DO YOU HAVE AN ANIMATED SHOW IDEA? I am a big fan of Nickelodeon animation, I spent many years of my life there and had great experiences. There was a time in animation and still is in most studios where you had to have an agent if you ever wanted to think about pitching a show unless you were already in the studio working. Nickelodeon in the last couple years has opened their doors to open submissions, I think this is smart because there are a lot of brilliant show ideas out there, that would have never been seen. With that all said, you must understand that a companies biggest fear is that you will submit an idea, but they or someone else has thought of a similar concept and it is for this reason you are agreeing to their terms that basically you cant and wont sue them should something similar show up on T.V. Yes it could be considered a risk on your part, but if you are new to this, I see it as a great opportunity. This is a professional studio. I know a few people who have development deals now based on pitching to the shorts program. They show you what they are looking for, so stick with the guidelines. Creating your own intellectual property is an exciting concept. Not only for animation but for your own comic, books, youtube channel and much more. Is there an art to doing this effectively, YES. a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Take the step. I have a good industry friend who has pitched many shows and has had many of them optioned by studios, because he has an effective way of doing it. We are discussing doing a 1 day workshop on this at my school. let me know if this would interest you. You would learn all about creating an effective show bible, including concept treatments, character descriptions, and how to verbally pitch your idea, what to say, and what not to say. Being professional and showing the execs that you are capable goes a long way. If there is enough interest I will set something up.
