DO YOU WANT TO BE A MOVIE STAR??? Word has been received from Malpaso Productions and Clint Eastwood that a new modern day western will begin filming in the Fort Sumner area in April of 2015. “From My Cold Dead Hands” will star such notables as Sam Elliot, Faye Dunaway, Penelope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, William Devane, and Tommy Lee Jones. Plans for filming include several days of filming at Steele Ranch, De Baca County Courthouse, Fort Sumner Airport, Sumner Lake, and the area around Taiban Mesa. The film will be based on attempts by federal government agents led by Morton Jones (William Devane), to remove a widow (Faye Dunaway) from her land because of the discovery of an endangered species. She (Charlotte Marshall) is joined by many locals including her friend Josh Martin (Sam Elliot), ranch foreman Guillermo Salas (Antonio Banderas), and his wife Carmen (Penelope Cruz). Sheriff Garth Monroe (Tommy Lee Jones) tries to keep the peace but must battle outside influences from politicians, outside agitators, animal rights activists, and constitutional rights activists. Charlie Daniels, well known musician and activist will make a cameo appearance. Dramatic legal arguments will be filmed inside the De Baca County Courthouse with our own local judge (Buddy Hall) presiding. Numerous extras will be needed and hopefully will be hired from the immediate area. A “meet and greet” meeting with the production company, the De Baca Chamber of Commerce, and the New Mexico Film Commision is scheduled for February 21st at the community house and the public is invited. Any questions related to the movie will be answered. A logistics crew from Malpaso has been making contact with local people to secure many of the necessities and make the filming as smooth as possible. Mike and Charlie West of Steele Ranch Inc. have signed on as head wranglers and the ranch will furnish any needed logistics including cowboys, horses and cattle. All available recreational vehicle parks will be contacted and spaces reserved for approximately 20 new top of the line recreational vehicles for the stars to stay in during filming. All businesses that provide food in the local area will also be contacted and given a chance to bid on providing meals on location to the film crew. The crew will also be hiring several local people to provide security at the filming locations and also at the RV park where the stars will be living. “From My Cold Dead Hands” will be released to theaters in the summer of 2016.
