DOES ISLAM ENCOURAGE TRIBALISM IN MARRIAGE? Bismillahir - TopicsExpress

DOES ISLAM ENCOURAGE TRIBALISM IN MARRIAGE? Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. It has become very rampant and almost a norm in our muslim communities of late. Prospective couples and people genuinely in love and ready to marry are discouraged and denied ignorantly on tribal grounds. A dagomba is denied access to a kokomba house, so is a Mossi in a Zabarma house and a hausa in a fulani house, just to mention a few even though the individual meets the islamic requirements of marriage. Wallahi Allah swt frowns against this kind of practice and so is the islamic religion. Allah swt stipulates clearly n His Noble Book; O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).sūrat l-ḥujurāt 49:13 Allah swt tells us that the most honoured in his sight is the most righteous and not the Arab nor the non-Arab. You can marry based on beauty, wealth, family background but the most appropriate is the one with a good character as said by our noble Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. This will serve as a reminder to all and an education to most of us. In summary when marrying, choose a spouse who is of good character and adherent of the religion of Islam for all other things are secondary. May Allah swt help us in choosing the right partners. Amin thumma Amin.
