DOES MAN REALLY KNOW WHAT MAKES HIM HAPPY? One of the tricks which shaytan plays on man is that he makes him negligent of his weaknesses. One thing which one cannot accept is that there can be someone who knows more than him what he likes or what makes him happy. A man believes if he is given that woman or a woman believes if she is married to that man, she would be happy. If it were to be true, most of the love marriages wouldnt have resulted in failure. The Quran how beautifully describes this idea in the following two verses of Surah Al Baqarah: And do not marry Al-Mushrikat (idolatresses, etc.) till they believe (worship Allah Alone). And indeed a slave woman who believes is better than a (free) Mushrikah (idolatress, etc.), even though she pleases you. And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikun till they believe (in Allah Alone) and verily, a believing slave is better than a (free) Mushrik (idolater, etc.), even though he pleases you. Those (Al-Mushrikun) invite you to the Fire, but Allah invites (you) to Paradise and Forgiveness by His Leave, and makes His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to mankind that they may remember. (2:221) The Quran also says: ﺮﻴﺧ ﻮﻫﻭ ﺎﺌﻴﺷ ﺍﻮﻫﺮﻜﺗ ﻥﺍ ﻲﺴﻋﻭ ﻢﻜﻟ ﻩﺮﻛ ﻮﻫﻭ ﻝﺎﺘﻘﻟﺍ ﻢﻜﻴﻠﻋ ﺐﺘﻛ ﻻ ﻢﺘﻧﺃﻭ ﻢﻠﻌﻳ ﻪﻠﻟﺍﻭ ﻢﻜﻟ ﺮﺷ ﻮﻫﻭ ﺎﺌﻴﺷ ﺍﻮﺒﺤﺗ ﻥﺍ ﻲﺴﻋﻭ ﻢﻜﻟ ﻥﺁﺮﻘﻟﺍ * ﻥﻮﻤﻠﻌﺗ Jihad (holy fighting in Allahs Cause) is ordained for you (Muslims) though you dislike it, and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know. (2:216) And this applies not only to the relationship but everything which man immensely desires for. Therefore, the Dua which the Prophet of Allah SAW taught us regarding Istikhara does not say, O Allah give me that thing, etc rather it says, O Allah give me what is better for me! Always pray to Allah to give you a wife or a husband who is not merely a choice of your whim or desire, but a coolness of your eyes and heart! Always when you want something too much, remind yourself this that Allah knows what makes me happy and He is going to for sure!
