DOG FOUND AFTER STARVING FOR A MONTH IN A DRAIN. The ASPCA got a call a few weeks ago about a sighting of a dog in an isolated field. when we got to the location it took us some time to find this poor animal. the dog was in a drain tied to a wooden pallet in a field way off the road. when it rained the dog would have to haul itself onto the pallet to save herself from drowning. she barked and growled savagely at us . but we sat down and talked to her and fed her a small amount of food and water, left her a few hours and again talked calmly to her and gave her a small amount of food. she calmed down. and we decieded to call the dog warden and the ISPCA welfare officer. we met them and got the dog out of the drain, she waged her tail as we got the chain detatched from the pallet and got her away from hell.we surrendered the dog from the ASPCA to the dog warden and the ISPCA. we are happy to say that even with the dog being extremely malnurished , she has recovered well and is a real friendly dote. she will be getting a real home this time when she is fully recovered from her ordeal.after investigations we found out that the owner left 4 dogs on this property for a year while she moved house and left them at her old property.she went out to feed them and as the year went by.she then took 3 dogs with her 6 wks ago and left this one behind. she says that it wasnt there when she called to get the others and thought it was stolen.she wanted the dog back but when she saw the state the dog was in she denied it was her dog and we cant prove that she is the owner.the real sickner of this story is that this same woman was on the radio and newspapers saying her house was cold and damp and she was rehoused to her current home in Athlone with the help of a county councillor. so she could have more comforts for herself but the dogs had to live in a yard with no right shelter, no company. one of the photos is of the inside of the property when she left. the house is smashed to pieces, rubbish piled up inside and outThe.owner of the property knows there is no hope of him getting any money back and we know there is no hope of us getting justice for this beautifull dog NINA a husky/ germanshepard crossbread, at least she can have comfort now
