DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH.....GENESIS. KING JAMES BIBLE ************************************************************************************** 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. 14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. 15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. DING DING DING ********************************************************************************* NOW, I HAVENT READ, OR SHOULD I SAY, TRIED TO READ OUR HOLY BIBLE RECENTLY, BUT TODAY, FOR SOME REASON, IM INTO IT...THINKING ABOUT STUFF, FOR SOME REASON...AS THINGS HAPPEN AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT(?) INSIDE THE BRAIN (OR SLIGHTLY SLOWER) AND CLIKKING AROUND CYBERSPACE, SUDDENLY YOU FIND YOURSELF SOMEWHERE YOU REALLY DIDNT INTEND TO GO, BUT FASCINATING. WELL, HERE WE IS FOLKS!!! (as, unfortunately, FB does not provide fonts or colors yet, im going to divide this by CAPITAL and small LETTERS to distinguish different parts of my mind/the universe/THOUGHT) ANYWAY, SOMEHOW, I FORGOT HOW, I GOT HERE. PICKING UP THE HOLY BIBLE (KING JAMES) AND READING GENESIS. FOR A LONG TIME NOW, IVE BEEN ENTERTAINING THE THEORY I READ SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY THAT EDEN WAS ACTUALLY IN THE AREA OF MESOPOTAMIA, BETWEEN THE EUPRATES AND TIGRIS rivers. OR IN THE AREA OF NINEVEH, BABYLON. UR. AND THERE IS A STUDY WHICH CLAIMS THERE ARE TWO ANCIENT RIVERBEDS IN THE ARABIAN AND EGYPTIAN DESERTS ONLY FOUND RECENTLY BY SATELLITE PHOTOS WHICH COULD BE THE TWO OTHER RIVERS mentioned in Genesis..which might have converged somewhere in the area of what is now at the bottom of the Persian Gulf. regarding the location of Eden, Verse 10 states: *10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.* a river watering a garden indicates a river moving into a desert. check. a river parting into four heads? this doesnt make sense. Rivers dont part. they CONVERGE. so even if they really did find two ancient rivers in the Arabian and Egyptian desert, they arent the result of any parting. if this was the case, Verse 10 should read, a river, formed from four HEADWATERS went into Eden to water the garden. this would make sense if the four tributaries converged in the area which is now under The Persian Gulf. so, the Garden of Eden would have been submerged after the melting of the last ice age when sea levels rose by 300 feet (91meters). this makes sense. THE FOUR HEADS OF VERSE 10 PISON, GIHON. HIDEKKEL, AND EUPRHATES. so, we have definitely accounted for the Euphrates and possibly the Tigris(Hidekkel?), if names could be found to match somehow. but the mention of Ethiopia in relation to the Gihon entirely confuses this theory. Ethiopia is nowhere near this area. that theory, if you are going to take PLACE NAMES as serious indicators of locations, is obviously a bit off. but i think it is much more likely that the script is screwed up (sorry, God).....it is more likely these verses of Genesis are the conglomeration of stuff pieced together by folks who didnt necessarily have satellite maps. so, now what? as i was reading Genesis, Verse 11, 12, and 13 rang a bell.....Gold, Onyx, and Ethiopia. thats obviously the HEADWATERS OF THE NILE, famous in ancient Egypt for Nubian Gold, Nubian Black people, and Ethiopia...!! **11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. check out this link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bdellium 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.** so....the two rivers that form the Nile are the Blue Nile and the White Nile, which converge just north of Khartoum, Sudan. which, i believe was in the southern limits of the Egyptian Empire,,,Nubia?? (for now, well keep the issue of the two other river HEADS on the back burner...or do we even need to??..if the texts are so confused as to mix Ethiopia with Assyria and the Euphrates, i think it may be safe to conclude that the King James version of Chapter 2 of Genesis should not be taken too literally.) the Nile flows from the conjunction of these two rivers into the land of Egypt........where it has been watering the gardens with its floods for thousands of years...and was the main cause for the development of civilization in Egypt, bringing water and fresh mineral containing silt to the farmland. HOWEVER...trying not to get lost in the desert here......it seems likely that an Origin of Humanity legend that might be interestingly close enough to SCIENCE to merit attention....might indicate that EDEN was actually located in the region of the Upper Nile. (OR that there were TWO EDENS, one in Mesopotamia and one in Egypt.....well have to address that possibility later...) BECAUSE: 1) we have all the Archealological evidence of first Modern Humans there(??). 2) the Egyptian pyramids were 2000 years old when Genesis was finally written down anywhere. so it seems a bit of a stretch to think that civilization arose in Mesopotamia first....(to be continued.......not sure when....) kingjamesbibleonline.org/Genesis-Chapter-2/
