DOING A RIGHT THING IN A WRONG WAY - 3 FOR READING: 2 Samuel 6: 1-11 MEMORY VERSE: David was angry because the LORD’S wrath had broken out against Uzzah. 2Samuel 6:8 (NIV) It is funny for a mere man to be angry with the Almighty God. We are serving a just God. David blamed God for the death of Uzzah, and this even resulted in his fear of the unknown. David was a man after God’s own heart yet God always punished him whenever he went way- ward. When David took a census (counted Israel) one would have thought it normal behaviour but there was catastrophe. Why? Because David disobeyed the decree of God. In Exodus 30:11-12, it is stated “when you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the LORD a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on when you number them”. However, in 2 Samuel 24, David took census of Israel disregarding this decree. There was disaster. The scriptures state “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). “But shall we continue to sin that grace may abound”? God is the great Potter and we are the clay. We cannot resist the will of God to please ourselves. We must soberly remember that it is dangerous for man to be angry with God. This may lead to deeper sin. Let us beware. VA MEDITATION Do I justify myself for certain things that happen in my life? PRAYER Have Your own way in my life, Sovereign Lord, for You are the potter and I am the clay. Amen. THOUGHT If God is for us, nobody can be against us.
