DONALD MCDANIEL ARMOUR | Visit Guest Book Donald McDaniel “Mac” Armour, 22, died on Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Memphis, TN. Mac was born on July 9, 1992, to Don and Meri Armour in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, until the eighth grade. The family moved to Memphis in 2007 and Mac attended high school at Memphis University School, where he served as a peer tutor and forged lasting friendships within the MUS community. Mac began playing hockey at an early age and continued to play in an intramural league in Memphis. He began his college career at University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS, where he is remembered as a brother in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Mac transferred to Rhodes College in Memphis after his freshman year and was on track to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in the spring of 2016. He was an active and eager participant in the Rhodes Society of Physics Students and is remembered by his department chair as a student who was extremely well-liked by his peers and respected by his faculty. Mac participated in numerous volunteer opportunities and served for several years on the Teen Advisory Council at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, volunteering as well in the hospital Lab and at an animal shelter. Mac worked as an intern at Turner Construction Company and had many passions, which included travel and a profound love of animals. Mac’s innate understanding of the way things worked made him uniquely suited to comprehend both the mechanics of science and the needs of people. His sharp mind was matched only by his big heart, which was evidenced in his willingness and ability to tutor his fellow students, meeting each in-dividual on their own level and patiently working to help them achieve that “a-ha” moment. Mac never turned away from anyone in need of help; his depth of compassion for people far exceeded that of many young men his age. His friends remember him as the man who always encouraged them to “look forward to the better you in that better tomorrow.” Mac continually strove to be the finest son, friend, athlete and scholar. His legacy of kindness and courage will inspire those he left behind to enter each day with a generous heart, until all are reunited in that better tomorrow where there is no more separation. Mac is survived by his mother, Meri; his father, Don; his girlfriend, Emily Holmes, whom he loved and intended to marry; his grandfather, Donald Armour; his uncle and aunt, Emmett “Chipper” and Jeanne Beckham; his first cousins, Joseph “Joe” and Michael Beckham and Kathleen “Kate” Beckham Anderson (Jon); a far-reaching community of friends, classmates and loved ones; his extended family at Le Bonheur; his dog, Beau; cat, Sasha; and beloved companion, Oatmeal. A memorial service for Mac will be held on Friday, October 17, at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Presbyterian Church, 613 University St., Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Mac’s name to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 41817, Memphis, TN, 38174, or lebonheur.org/donatenow. Memorial Park Funeral Home, Behind the stone wall, 901-767-8930. Condolences may be offered at MemorialParkOnline
