DONT LEAVE DOOR AJAR FOR PETS SAYS BURGLARY VICTIM A burglary victim has warned pet owners against leaving their doors open for their animals – after her Sheffield home was broken into by a sneak-in thief. The 57-year-old woman, from Fox Hill, left her back door ajar for her cats but intruders got in. She disturbed them and droppedher television in the garden as they fled the scene. She said: “I heard somebody in the house and went downstairs. “I saw an arm, I didn’t see their faces. They ran away and left my television in the garden. “This has really affected me. I’m disabled and I can’t go out of the house, so I rely on my television. “I feel very silly for leaving the door open, but I had only left the room for a few minutes. “People don’t realise just how quickly these offenders can get in and out. It takes them seconds. “I really don’t want other people to end up in the same situation as me. I’m feeling very anxious and have barely slept since it happened.” Detective Inspector Martin Tate, from South Yorkshire Police, said: “People should never leave their doors unlocked as it can take just a few seconds for an opportunist thief to sneak in.” A 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
