DONT SHOOT! It was still and quiet last night when I was walking - TopicsExpress

DONT SHOOT! It was still and quiet last night when I was walking from the garage to the house around midnight. I saw a suspicious car slowly driving south down the road near 1st & Rokeby. The car slowed, stopped, turned around, then stopped again, heading north. I walked into the house where I had a clear view of the car from my office window and I continued to watch the car when I heard a pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop in rapid succession coming from the car. I grabbed the keys and went rumblin, bumblin, stumblin to the car to drive down towards where the shots were fired, but by the time I got very far the shooter was speeding down Rokeby Road east towards Highway 77. Fortunately traffic on the highway forced him to stop for an extended period which allowed me to pull up behind and get his plate number. I drove home, called the Sheriff, described the car, and said I suspected what I heard was a small caliber rifle or pistol; semi automatic. I drove back down to where the shots were fired to look for shell casings when from the east I saw a deputy coming up from Hwy 77, and from the south on 1st Street I thought another deputy was approaching, but it was the shooter coming back to the scene of the crime! He drove past me slowly as I shined my flashlight into his stunned face, but the real surprise was waiting for him at Rokeby Road where the deputy was waiting for him in his cruiser. The deputy followed the car for a bit then pulled him over. I followed and watched the officer remove a small caliber semi-automatic rifle from the car. Turns out the floor of the car was covered with .22 and 223 shell casings, but the driver said he wasnt shooting, rather he was just out driving around clearing his head. The gun was confiscated. I left and dont know if the driver was charged with anything at this point, but he remained pulled over for at least another 20 or 30 minutes. I did re-visit the scene this morning and there were no dead animals, shell casings or holes in signs, but based on the orientation and location of the car it appears he was shooting from his drivers seat into the dark field in front of my home, the same field where I stand invisibly in the middle of the night taking photos of the moon, stars and lighting.
