DOOLEYS INVESTIGATION Sent from my iPadWilliams “Manager” & The Beatles Fact Or Fiction Evidence: (1:1 to 1:5) 1: 1 Sir Paul McCartney states: “When we started off we had a manager in Liverpool called Allan Williams. He was a great bloke, a real good motivator. He was very good for us a the time” (See The Official Beatles Anthology, YouTube: Part 4: Time 2:40). 1:2 Allan Williams stated numerous times in his book “The Man Who Gave The Beatles Away” that he was both agent and manager. John Lennon personally endorses Allans book (back cover signed and dated 75) 1:3 Pete Bests Official biography and website states the following: “During 1960 the Silver Beatles played without a permanent drummer. Finally, when their manager Allan Williams secured a tour of Hamburg”, etc etc. 1:4 Fitzroy (Jimmie) James, original member of the Royal Caribbean Steel Band c 1960 states. “Allan Williams was our manager and also the manager of The Beatles at the same time. Allan Williams was a wonderful manager and friend. He looked after us, he treated us well and The Jacaranda Club was a special place”. (See “The Jacaranda, Beyond The Music”. Facebook & Website 2013, Interviews). 1:5 Clive Kelly, Jacaranda doorman and Williams business partner (1961) states that “Allan Williams was the manager of the Beatles” ( Kelly, Williams Interview 2012 and Hepworth, Kelly Interview 2013) Facts (2:1 to 2:2) 2:1 Williams recommends that Bob Wooler, The Cavern Dee Jay and Compere becomes The Beatles manager, the offer is declined. The question is, what position/ authority does Allan have to make such an offer ?. 2:2 At the time of the Williams/ Beatles relationship all members of the group were under the age of 21. On that basis it would have been necessary to have the legal consent of all parents to enter into any such management contract. Given that no such documentation in relation to parents consent, or management contracts have ever come into the public domain in order to support Allans management role, as per Epstein/ Beatles contract, it is therefore safe to assume that no such written williams/ Beatles management contract exists. 2:3 No documentary evidence exists within the public domain in order to prove that Williams was not the Beatles Manager. 2:4 Williams managed Arthur Dooley c 1960 onwards and Brian Burgess c1964 onwards. The agreed contracts were verbal only. ( Jen Allanson “Dooley Archive” and Burgess Interview 2008 – Hepworth, Williams interview 2010 - Dooley Archive financial accounts 1961 to 1964 ) Conclusion (3:1) 3: 1 Given the depths in which the Beatles history has been scrutinised over the many decades it is incredible to think that no such documentary evidence has ever come to light in respects of a written Beatles/ Williams management contract. The reverse is also true. No such documentary evidence has been provided that clearly proves Williams was not the Beatles manager. The only evidence that can be relied upon comes directly from the Beatles members and individual sources themselves. To be frank, they are the most valuable source of information of all in respect of this very important subject. If we combine all known evidence and facts together then it must be safe to assume “at this point in time” that the management contract between Williams and The Beatles was a verbal agreement only. On that basis Williams was indeed the very first manager and agent of The Beatles.
