DOST-6 gives tech support to 45 projects ILOILO CITY, Dec. 25(PIA)—The Department of Science and Technology here has been providing technical assistance to 45 projects under its Small enterprise Technology Upgrading Program-Innovation system support Fund (SETUP-ISSF) for 2014. DOST-6 Information Officer Alicia Soledad Salazar, these projects are in Iloilo (10), Negros occidental (10), Aklan (8), Antique and Capiz (6) and Guimaras (5). Salazar said SETUP-ISSF provides assistance for the upgrading of existing facilities of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as the acquisition of other requirements in the production line. Program beneficiaries under this shall refund government the cost of the assistance in the period of three years without interest. The program boosts initiatives on food processing, handicrafts, furniture and decors, horticulture, aquatic and marine, metals and engineering, health products and services, and Information and Communications Technology. “These are the sectors recognized for their big impact on local economy, availability of resources and potentials for local market,” Salazar said. DOST’s SETUP is a nationwide program to encourage and assist MSMEs and private and government institutions to implement technological innovations and enhance competitiveness.
