About Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Uganda Established in October 2012, DOT Uganda is a subsidiary of Digital Opportunity Trust, a leading international social enterprise headquartered in Canada with local operations in 14 countries around the globe. The organization aims to empower people living in communities that are developing, in transition, or under stress with the confidence to use technology for entrepreneurial, community, educational, and personal development. In addition, DOT Uganda equips young people (college and university graduates) with the necessary life coping skills to foster their personal and career development, and to enhance their contribution to community and national development through its youth-led programs. Another picture.jpg In this photo: Our first group of Interns pose for a group photo after completing the Internship Training in March, 2013. Since April 2013, the organization has been implementing the ReachUp!, an entrepreneurship program that integrates Technology, Business, Life Skills, and Micro-Enterprise Development in Kampala, Mukono and Mpigi Districts. So far, 31 Ugandan youths (DOT Interns) have been benefited from this intervention, having participated in an intensive four-week Intern Learning Experience (ILE), during which their knowledge and proficiencies were enhanced in areas such as confidence, technology, facilitation, research, project management, advocacy, coaching, business and financial management, as well as commitment to excellence. However, this training did not only empower them to effectively deliver DOT programs but also prepared them to enter the workforce as talented, experienced, and in-demand professionals after their 1 year Internship Contract. Upon completing the training, the Interns were deployed in underprivileged local communities so as to transfer their newly acquired skills to community members and small-scale business owners with diminutive education background. This has been done through training, mentoring, coaching, and providing program participants with Business and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Knowledge, on top of linking them to Business Development and Microfinance opportunities in the marketplace. As a result, more than 2500 community members have been empowered with life skills that have enabled them to uncover their entrepreneurship qualities, advance their economic status and build successful, sustainable livelihoods.
