DOWNHILL DIRECTORS POSITION - GOLD COAST MTB CLUB The Downhill Director of Gold Coast MTB Club is principally responsible for the management of our Club track at Illinbah including event management and Landowner liaison. I have filled this position along with President & Vice President for too many years to remember and have been well assisted by Fraser Short and Paul Dymalla during that time. However; as a result of continuing health problems and increased overseas business commitments - I have advised the Club that I will be standing down from this role effective 18 April 2014. Fraser and Paul have also indicated that they will not be available to undertake additional responsibilities because of work and business commitments. In short, the Club and Illinbah needs a group of like minded persons who are willing to keep the DH side of the Club and Illinbah alive! It is time that DH riders, parents of DH junior riders and family members of DH riders got involved to manage the Club and Illinbah. If this fails to occur then the end result will be the loss of an iconic DH venue in Illinbah which would be the worst thing ever considering everything that has been done there and the reputation Illinbah has across the DH community! Plans are afoot to have the top section from start line to forest entry reshaped by Pete Wilson (Trailworx) along with securing A Line to make it a safer track - this is programmed to occur next month (May). The Landowner has also advised his plan to remove cattle from the property in the near future which will make like at Illinbah just that much more enjoyable - no cow shit splattered over everyone and everything!! As everyone is aware, Illinbah is the Host venue for round 3 of the Sunshine Series and Qld State DH Champs 2014 however; if riders/members etc are not prepared to step up and help manage these events then the Club will have no choice but to forfeit these events. That decision will be taken within the next 2 weeks and will be based on the response to this plea I am putting out to the DH Community! If the events are forfeited, dont whinge because the decision is in your hands and it would be highly unlikely that the Club would ever nominate for such events again! Myself and Paul came into the Club in this manner however; both our sons are now 21 years of age and its time for others to have their turn at helping with their kids sporting ventures.
