DOÑANA TODAY Great temperature and beautiful light yesterday in the Park. On the way back of the morning tour we found an old cork oak tree that could not stand up any more and that soon will not be more than a memory of what it was for a few hundred years. If felt down during the morning because it was still standing on the way in. That is the way it is out in nature. It was a surprise to find a Great Spotted Cuckoo in the marshes; they come very early in the year, often in January, but disappear at the end of March or beginning of April. I haven’t found out yet what they do or where they go. That is why it was an unexpected sighting this bird today. At Cancela de la Escupidera we found a group of Vultures resting in one the horse corrals they have there; it looked like a vulture farm. And at the end of the day, on the way back of the afternoon tour we were lucky enough to find a beautiful Tawny Owl perched on an ash tree near Cancela del Vicioso. After that we waited until dark to try Red-necked Nightjar near El Rocío and heard some of them but did not see any. The first are back but only a few.
