DPNM FILES PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST FOR MARTINEZ DA FILES Today, pursuant to the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act, Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairman Sam Bregman submitted a request for email and written correspondence between then-District Attorney and Gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez, her campaign staff and the Third Judicial District Attorney’s office in 2009 and/or 2010. The request follows recent reporting that Martinez’s 2010 campaign utilized the DA’s office for overtly political purposes. According to the Mother Jones report: “A former [Martinez] staffer recalls the campaign on multiple occasions sending the license plate numbers of cars believed to be used by opposition trackers to an investigator in Martinez’s DA office who had access to law enforcement databases. In one instance, a campaign aide took a photo of a license plate on a car with an anti-Martinez bumper sticker and emailed it to the investigator. “Cool I will see who it belongs to!!” the investigator replied.” DPNM Chairman Sam Bregman said, “These allegations are part of a troubling pattern by Susana Martinez and her staff of misusing public resources for political purposes. New Mexicans deserve to know how government resources are being used.” The New Mexico Democratic Party will make any records of political activity by Martinez and her staff available to the public as they are made available.
