DREW (MANHATTAN ACC): Maybe the cutest pup in all of Manhattan. Maybe all the outer boroughs, too. This is DREW! Watch his video. See his floppy-floppy ears. Are you smiling? Isnt he a riot? If Drew could speak, he might say something like, My name is Drew! My name is Drew! I am your dog! I am your DOG!* Whoa, Drew! Not yet! Theyre not here, yet. Maybe, maybe theyre STOPPING AT THE PET STORE TO GET A WHOLE BUNCH OF TREATS AND TOYS before they pick you up! Maybe an antler -- maybe a whole DEER! Thats right, Drew. Thats right. (While Drew frollicks with Carol over there, lets talk about his circumstances at the shelter. Hes in a very small kennel because they have no room in the adoptions section of the Manhattan pound. It wont be long before he starts to cough and his nose starts to run, and then hell be in trouble. Drew has an average behavior rating, which is very good: Drew did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Are you an Average Home? Yes? Read on: A volunteer writes: So quiet in his kennel even when a busy day passes his kennel constantly, I didnt know what to expect when meeting this handsome boy. I think it took me 10 seconds, tops, to fall in love. His leash manners are wonderful....until he sees a squirrel or bird he thinks might be fun to play with and gives a half hearted little trot towards them, giving up the chase quickly. Likely housetrained, he goes potty as soon as were out the door, and we head to the park. Drew doesnt mind being tethered for photos, makes soft eye contact, sits when I ask him to, and then does a series of adorable stretches....Yoga anyone? Playbowing to every dog we pass in the park, as well as to those in the backyard, Drew is waiting for his turn to join a play group. Hes like an adolescent discovering the world, happy with what he finds, wagging his tail at all. Rolling into me for snuggles, Drew is fabulously cuddly, and then sitting by my feet as I take some notes. Off leash in the yard hes thrilled to play tug with me, and then play with his toy by himself. Drew needs some TLC for his coat as its thin in places likely due to some poor nutrition. Some better food will make his coat lush and fabulous. Hopping right back into his kennel at the end of our time together, Drew drank some water and settled down for a nap. Hes an easy dog to fall in love with, and I guarantee one meeting with him will be all it takes before he grabs your heart. Meet Drew, fall in love, and make him a part of your family today. Formal behavior evaluation (click here for an explanation of the designations- tinyurl/ona9m2x): AVERAGE Drew walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment - soft body, wagging tail. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Drew had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He was not interested in toys but was easy to handle when chewing on rawhides. Drew was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Drew did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.
