DROGBA: WILL TO WIN After netting his 2nd goal in 3days,Didier Drogba spoke about the teams progression past a very difficult opponent in last night’s Capital One Cup 4th round match. The Ivorian opened the scoring at Greenhous Meadow last night with a firm left-footed finish,&he played an important role in our winner, too, pressuring Shrews’ defender Jermaine Grandison into heading the ball past his own keeper. Jose Mourinho stressed after the game how difficult our task had been, especially in light of Sunday’s match at Old Trafford,&that was an opinion shared by his striker&captain for the night. ‘I played against them in a friendly match with Galatasaray last year so I knew this team already,’ Drogba said. ‘I’m not surprised by how good they were. They’ve improved from that game. The crowd was pushing them too. ‘It was a difficult pitch,in difficult weather against a fantastic team&a fantastic opponent. I think they gave everything&they showed why they deserved to be here. They created a difficult game for us,really. ‘It’s difficult for the players that haven’t played a lot this season&for those that were playing on Sunday. Shrewsbury were pushing us&they really gave us some hard work, but with our experience we finally won the game.’ In the absence of regular skipper John Terry,Drogba was named captain in Shropshire&Mourinho described afterwards how his talisman had led by example on a night when a number of our younger players featured. ‘JT was on the bench&I don’t need the captain’s armband to support&to push,’ Drogba explained. ‘We got this result as a team. Everybody wanted to win.’
