DRUM TRACK OF THE DAY: The Drum Also Waltzes by Max Roach In honor of what would have been Max Roachs 91st birthday today, here is the classic drum solo piece, The Drum Also Waltzes. Long before Terry Bozzio was composing solo drum music, Max Roach recorded this piece for his album, Drums Unlimited, released in 1966. This composition proves unequivocally for any doubters out there that a drummer can in fact create music on a drum kit. Today, Maxs playing continues to inspire drummers from all generations including such greats as Neil Peart and Bill Bruford. Last March, Max Roach was voted one of The 50 Greatest Drummers of All Time by the readers of Modern Drummer Magazine.
