DRY SKIN BRUSHING Dry brushing is another great way to encourage a gentle detox and stimulate the liver. First, purchase a stiff bristle dry brush, available in health food stores and online. Keep the brush dry at all times and only brush yourself when you are dry (hence the term dry brushing). As a bonus, dry brushing softens skin and encourages cell renewal. By getting sluggish lymph fluid moving, it may also reduce the appearance of cellulite. Take a few minutes every time before your shower or bathe to dry brush. Here’s what to do: 1. Starting at the soles of the feet, use firm, sweeping strokes or circular strokes and brush upward toward your heart. Do one leg and then the other, brushing up your calves and highs. Repeat on the other leg. 2. Continue to use firm, upward strokes over your bottom, lower back and abdomen. You may find certain areas are more sensitive. In particular, the stomach may be sensitive so use lighter strokes. 3. Brush lightly over the chest and breasts because the skin here is more sensitive. Remember to brush toward the heart. 4. Brush up the arms, down the back of the neck and across the shoulders. In the beginning, the process will be slightly uncomfortable. Don’t brush too hard, just listen to your body. Increase the brush pressure gradually - you will not be able to tolerate very much pressure for the first few times, but in a week or two you will be able to use firmer strokes.
