DSA stands for digital subtraction angiography.it is gold standard for angiography procedures. principle in this the image of the patient is first taken , and after contrast injection in the dsa the other image is also taken and the previous image is subtracted leaving only the contrast image in the vessels. This process is done as simultaneously as the contrast is injected within no time. The first image taken is called the mask image. Three things fluoroscopy , image intensifier and camera is required and used in combination in DSA . The camera (vidicon or plumbicon) sends digital data to monitor/ computer which subtract the post contrast image with the mask image. The plumbicon or vidicon camera sends the image form the output side of the image intensifier to the monitor or computer, without using charge coupled device (CCD) nowadays.
