DSWD Ilocos drums up support for CCT expansion By Joanne Namnama G. Parrocha SAN FERNANDO CITY, Oct. 9 (PIA) - The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Ilocos region has started drumming up support for the expansion of the Conditional Cash Transfer program through the Kaya Ko campaign. The campaign seeks to convince Congress to approve the additional budget for the expansion of the CCT program also known as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino. At present, the program only covers families with children from 0-14 years old. Under the expansion program, beneficiaries with children aged 15 to 18 will be given additional P500 as educational grant. In a statement, DSWD assistant regional director Marlene Febes Peralta said the expansion is a move to provide better opportunities for children beneficiaries. She said at least 30,037 active households in the province who are currently served by the program will remain beneficiaries once the expansion is approved. “This is good news to beneficiaries who are set to graduate from the program after five years,” Peralta added. Evafe Terte, who handles La Union beneficiaries, said the expansion will result to more employability because it will provide cash support until children finish high school. “Through the program, beneficiaries will have a greater chance of finding a decent and more lucrative employment to support their family,” Terte said.
