DTI Sarangani turns over milking machine to Malungon coop GENERAL SANTOS CITY, October 22 (PIA)---- The Department of Trade and Industry-Sarangani Provincial Office turned over two units of milking machine to a cooperative in Malungon Friday, October 17. The activity dubbed project launching of the “Shared Service Facility on Milking Machine” aims to boost the productivity and income of small farmers. The machines will be used by Malalag Cogon Bangkal Dairy Farmers Cooperative (MALCOBADAFCO) composed of 25 members that are into cow’s milk production. DTI-Sarangani Provincial Director Engr. Nenita Barroso said the Shared Service Facility or SSF is a project of DTI that intends “to improve the quality and productivity of micro-small and medium enterprises (MSMEs)” in the country. “This is done by addressing the gaps in the value chain of priority industry clusters through the provision of processing and/or manufacturing tools, machinery, and equipment for the common use of the MSMEs,” she explained. The SSSF, she added is implemented through a Private-Public Partnership (PPP). “That’s why we have partnered with MALCOBAFCO to be the co-operator to oversee the operation of the machines in the food processing of member MSMEs,” Barroso said. She believes that private sectors partnership is potent especially in sustaining the use and housing the machinery and equipment. The project launch and turnover also led to the signing of memorandum of agreement between the cooperative and the DTI. The SSF is just among the many government projects implemented nationwide to achieve inclusive growth, which the Aquino administration espouses. Speaking on behalf of his cooperative, MALCOBADAFCO chairperson Emilio Aranez said they are grateful and very lucky to be the recipient and co-operator of the milking machines. He assured the DTI that the units will be used according to their designated purposes and they will do their best to ensure they are taken care of properly. “It’s a big help to our cooperative in terms of enhancing members’ productivity and income. So rest assured we will take good care of them,” Aranez said in Cebuano. The two units cost P85,000 each. Meanwhile, municipal Councilor Joseph Calanao, chairperson of the Committee on Finance lauded DTI for having SSF project implemented in Sarangani thus giving MSMEs in Malungon access to improved technology and sophisticated equipment. He admitted that the municipal government has “that problem in coming up with an Investment Plan” so that the SSF is of great complement in the identification of projects that have not been included in their plan. Calanao is also confident that the equipment can spur competitiveness of the cooperative especially in improving the supply of milk, which he expects to end in a better and wider market. The project launch and turnover is also aligned with Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon’s flagship program “Sulong Sarangani” specifically its sub-projects “Sulong Kalusugan and Sulong Kasaganahan,” said Engr. Alain Alcala, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Planning and Development Office. Aside from barangay, municipal, and provincial officials, also present were other stakeholders and witnesses from the National Dairy Authority, the DTI-12, the Philippine Information Agency 12, and the Sarangani Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Inc.
