DTI opens first shared service facility in Pampanga By Joelyn G. Baluyut APALIT, Pampanga, July 1 (PIA) -- Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) opened on Friday its first shared service facility (SSF) in Pampanga meant to boost the metal craft industry in Apalit town. The SSF, which has Strong Union Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SUMCO) as cooperator, consists of five units of electric motors, three units of gator clamps, two welding machines, one compressor, and one pipe vender. “SSF is a strategy adopted to achieve the goal of the National Industry Cluster Capacity Enhancement Project (NICCEP) which is to set up common production centers in order for Small and Medium Enterprises in priority industry clusters gain access to better technology and more sophisticated equipment thereby increasing their competitiveness, consequently affecting their contribution to the national economy,” DTI Provincial Director Elenita Ordonio explained. Apart from metalcraft, other priority clusters of Pampanga include bamboo, processed food, processed meat, muscovado, dairy, waterlily, and organic fertilizer. “The province got the most number of approved SSFs in Central Luzon under Batch 1 with 20 amounting to around P18 million in total,” Ordonio added. SSFs on Meat Processing and Dairy in San Simon and Magalang respectively opens in July.
