Dabangg Patna SP catches inspector demanding bribe from cyber cafe owner !! A high-voltage drama involving Bihar and Uttar Pradesh policemen unfolded on the streets of Patna on Sunday leading to the detention and subsequent release of a crime branch inspector from Moradabad on bribery charges. Patna City Superintendent of Police Shivdeep Waman Lande, popularly known as Dabangg IPS officer, held Moradabad inspector Sarv Chandra by his collar and dragged him to the police vehicle at Dak Bangalow Chowk where the latter had arrived in the morning to allegedly collect a bribe of 10,000 from two local traders. Chandra was subsequently taken to the police station but was released a few hours later after he denied the allegations and recorded his statement. The modus operandi of Lande to arrest a policemen from the neighbouring state, however, kicked up a row among the police circles. Patna SSP Jitendra Rana said that he had sought a detailed report on the incident from the SP. The matter will be investigated on the basis of his report and suitable action will be taken, Rana said. Earlier in the day, Lande said that a cyber café owner in Patna named Pankaj had lodged a complaint with him that a team of policemen from the crime branch in Moradabad had been demanding a bribe of `10,000 from him to settle an old case of cyber crime. The shopkeeper had alleged that the UP police team had come to inquire about a SIM card which had been sold from his shop in 2012. They told me that the SIM which had been sold from my shop was being used for cyber crimes, the shopkeeper said. The inspector asked me to give him 10,000 to clear my name in the case, he alleged. The shopkeeper subsequently contacted Lande and informed him about the bribery demand. Thereafter, the UP inspector was called at Dak Bangalow Chowk where Lande, who was in a disguise wearing a red T-shirt and a stole, was awaiting him and the other policemen. When the shopkeeper identified the inspector, Lande pounced on him and held him by his collar. Helped by another policeman, he dragged the inspector to his vehicle to take him to the Kotwali police station. Lande said that people would lose faith in the police if the the personnel would start indulging in such activities, like extortion. Chandra, however, denied the allegation and said that the shopkeeper had framed him under a conspiracy. He said that he had come to Patna in connection with the cases related to cyber crime. In my conscience, I am innocent, he said. You may take a look at my track record also. The Patna police, in the meantime, got in touch with their Moradabad counterparts about Chandras detention but he was released later. Police sources said that the matterwould be thoroughly investigated. Lande has been known for his no-nonsense style of policing and has earned the monikers such as Singham and Dabangg over the years in Bihar. Though he has won considerable number of admirers among youngsters in the state, the Maharashtra-born officer has often raised the hackles of his seniors in the department for his style of functioning.
