Dad took me to see my first musical, it was Les Mis for the Mackay Musical Comedy Players. I auditioned for a role and didnt get in. I was 10 and the dude who got the part is now one of the most successful dancers in the world - so ive always been fine with it. On our way to the MECC that night in 1993 dad told me that if I was interested in a life in the arts it was going to be filled with ups and downs, but that he would be there to support me when needed. Well, after working on cruise ships, professional musicals, film etc. I certainly saw good ups and even better downs. And dad was there 24/7. Im now based back in Mackay, producing The Burlesque Ball - Intimate Dreams Thursday, 17th July at the MECC and then Ill be producing my best friend and musical superstar in Phelan Groovy - Kurt Phelan and Friends at The Space Saturday, 2nd August. Life has ups and downs. For the moment, things are finally looking good. I choose to see the martini glass is half full. I ache that dad wont be at the Burlesque Ball, but the last musical I performed in professionally, mum and dad were front row in Melbourne and I loved it. Its been tough to sing the last 7 months. Really tough. But, dad paid for a truck load of expansive singing lessons. So, the show must go on. Because it does. Joel Bow xxx
