Dad’s Advice – “Rock and Fire Boy, Rock and Fire” My Dad - TopicsExpress

Dad’s Advice – “Rock and Fire Boy, Rock and Fire” My Dad was a career Air Force Sergeant (old school). He also had the voice to go with it. Deep, Big, and Loud! Needless to say, when he spoke, everyone listened. Well, one summer he was my baseball coach. We must’ve been short on pitchers because I was called on to pitch quite a bit that summer. I pretty much had one pitch --- the fastball. And I wasn’t sure where it was going most of the time. I think I just scared most batters into striking out. I will NEVER forget that summer. I would get out on the mound, ball in hand, and as I would get ready to pitch, Dad would YELL from the bench, “Rock and Fire Boy, Rock and Fire”. I’m pretty sure people in the next county could hear him. Well, my attitude was “My Dad told me to Rock and Fire…. Man that’s what I was going to do.” My Dad told me to do it – that was good enough for me. I would grab that ball and throw it just as hard as I could. No foolin’ around, nothing fancy – just rock and fire. Just about every pitch was the same thing. “Rock and Fire Boy, Rock and Fire” and I would. I swear, sometimes I can still hear him. “Rock and Fire Boy, Rock and Fire” Once again Dad………….. Thanks.
