Dagupan villages still flooded; evacuees swell to 488 April Montes DAGUPAN CITY, August 23 (PIA) – At least 140 families or 488 persons displaced at the height of tropical storm Maring are now temporarily housed at the People’s Astrodome here. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) said the evacuees came from barangays Malued, Bacayao Norte, Pogo Chico, Herrero-Perez, Lucao, Bacayao Sur, Pogo Chico, Lasip Grande and Mayombo. Carol Ann Español of CDRRMC said they are provided with hot meals, drinking water, sleeping areas and medications by members of the medical and social teams to fend off diseases. The council remained on red alert while members are deployed to undertake close monitoring and field operations. “(Barangay disaster response teams) are advised to report regularly to the CDRRMC operation center for updates,” said Español. She said disaster alerts and operations are continuously fed through social media, television and radio networks. The Sangguniang Panlungsod had declared 18 barangays under the state of calamity namely: Pantal, Lasip Chico, Lasip Grande, Pogo Chico, Pogo Grande, Malued, Bacayao Sur, Bacayao Norte, Mayombo, Calmay, Lucao, Herrero Perez, Barangay 2 and 3 (merged), Poblacion Oeste, Tapuac, Bonuan Boquig, Bonuan Gueset and Barangay 1. As of 1 p.m. today, the CDRRMC said waist-deep flooding remains in Malued; Purok I-Interior in Lasip Chico; Arenos and Tococ in Bacayao Sur; Kamangaan in Mayombo; and Herrero-Perez (riverside). “These areas remain to be closely watched and barangay councils are regularly asked for update,” said Español. Price ceiling for basic commodities are monitored as per instruction of the City Administrator Farah Decano, she said. (MCA/AMM/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
