Dahal says his pro-private sector policy resulted in his party suffering split: (Nepal) ***************************************** UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has revealed that the stark differences in the way of looking at the private sector was one of the chief reasons behind the vertical split his party had undergone in the past. Speaking at an interaction organised by Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in its headquarters in the capital Wednesday, Dahal said that his party suffered the rupture when he raised his voice in favour of the private sector’s wellbeing and interest. He added that his party UCPN (M) has been actively working for the welfare and development of the private sector in close coordination with other political parties and that this was why the private sector should lend its support to his party during the upcoming election. “We tried to forge some kind of cooperation with the private sector when we were in power. But that created a huge discord inside the party, which eventually resulted in our party suffering a split,” Dahal said, adding that it is not for nothing that his party introduced the concept of public-private partnership. He also said that the policy of “production, development and construction” put forth by the Hetauda National Convention of UCPN (M) party was meant to promote the private sector. Dahal, however, admitted that the decision to implement that policy was against the party’s core communist principles. “We came up with the policy favourable to the private sector after coming to the conclusion that our communist ideals had become obsolete and were not in tune with the demands of the people as well as the country,” he added.
