All club announcements must be approved by advisors prior to being submitted. All announcements will run as long as we deem necessary unless specific dates to run are requested. To subscribe or unsubscribe to the daily announcements please email [email protected] AR Community -Attention AR Parents: The Glow Dance is Friday, March 28th, 7-10pm. Dance Committee is looking for parent volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up or to bring snacks, candy or finger foods. Please contact Carol at 476-4203 or [email protected]. We really appreciate your support! -Meet me at Applebees is coming Thursday, March 27th, 11am to 11pm. Vouchers are being mailed with Progress Reports & you can get more in the AR Office. Invite friends, neighbors & family to enjoy a meal any time that day. To Go Orders must be placed one day in advance. Be sure to present your voucher & 15% of your tab will benefit Academy of the Redwoods! -CR summer course offerings should be available on WebAdvisor beginning March 10th. The Fall schedule should be available about a week after that. AR students will be eligible to register for CR classes on April 9th, pending concurrent enrollment forms were submitted on time. -You will need to submit a new concurrent enrollment form & BOG fee waiver application for fall class registration to cover the 2014-15 school year. Pick them up in the office - due back in the office by March 31st! -Challenge Day is coming back to AR!!! On Monday, March 31st AR will participate in a Challenge Day event at the Fortuna Vets Hall. Students who participate must be able to stay for the whole day 8:30-3pm. This course will earn you 10 high school credits and meet one year of your foreign language requirement. This will also open up more flexibility for college units in the upcoming semesters. If you want to enroll in the Spanish 1 course complete this form. -ARs Got Talent- AR Talent Show is quickly approaching. Brainstorm with your friends and perform as a group or perform individually. Entries are due by Friday, April 11th and you can apply on the following form tinyurl/kmxnrd3 check out more details on the AR website under students, clubs and activities -The Roaring 20s All-School Prom is coming soon & the Dance Committee needs lots of help! This special event will be held at the Fortuna Riverlodge May 29th, 8-11pm. Dance Committee is looking for volunteers to bring food & drinks, volunteer with set-up or clean-up or to chaperone. Prom meeting is Friday, March 28th in the Advising Center at lunch (All-School Prom is Thursday, May 29th, 8-11 in the Fortuna Riverlodge) -The “Second Chances” Art Show is a fundraiser for Teen Court and takes place at Arts Alive! in Eureka on May 3rd at Los Bagels. We are looking for students to submit artwork to Teen Court for this show. The theme of the show is “Second Chances” and provides an opportunity for local youth to creatively explore the topic of second chances and what personal and community transformation looks like. All forms of 2 dimensional mediums are welcome. Please contact Teen Court ASAP if you or a student you know (grades 8-12) is interested. We will provide further information. Submissions are open from now through March 31, and the contest is open to all Academy of the Redwoods students. Students may enter into either a poetry or a short story category, or both, with no more than one submission per category. There is no prompt, and we welcome all types of fiction! All submissions must be less than 12 pages, double spaced. Cash Prizes will be awarded for winners, with 1st place prizes of $50 for short story and $30 for poetry, as well as $10 for one of our honorable mentions selected from either category. Please submit your writing as a Google Document using the following form: https://docs.google/forms/Writing Contest If you enjoy writing, why not also come along to Writing Club on Fridays (see club info in Announcements). If you have previously participated in a Challenge Day and are interested in being a student leader for our upcoming Challenge Day, please some see or email Ali H. CR -Poets & Writers, College of the Redwoods literary magazine, is currently accepting submissions of original poetry and fiction from community members, as well as staff, faculty, and students. The submission period is currently open and will be through March 26, 2013. All authors whose work is accepted will be invited to read at our college-wide celebration on the Eureka campus on Friday, April 25 at 7pm in Humanities 110.
