Daily Bible Reading 9 October: 1 Kings 19-20 “Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors’” (1Kings 19:3-4). Elijah was discouraged! But God dealt with him in an understanding and caring manner. God allowed Elijah to sleep (1 Kings 19:5). He nourished him with food (1 Kings 19:5-7). He visited him with an awe-inspiring revelation of His power and presence (1 Kings 19:11-13). He provided direction (1 Kings 19:15). He gave him a faithful companion with a kindred spirit (1 Kings 19:21). When you are discouraged, you can ask God to give strength, grace and encouragement. Encouragement is the language of the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to encourage you today.
