Daily Comic Book Force Update: A few updates ago, I talked about how Shazam would be set in the same film universe (the DCCU) as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. So, I thought this would be a good time to talk about what crossover films we might see or enjoy over the next few years. Of course, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the biggest one and the closest (2016) and theres Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash and Doomsday appearing in that film so... Anyway, without further ado, herere 5 ideas I have for crossover films in the DCCU. The first idea is a crossover between the Suicide Squad and the Outsiders. When a group consisting of mainly street-level villains such as Harley Quinn and Deadshot roam the streets, the Justice League probably wouldnt care so much. However, Batman will definitely have an interest. So who would the Suicide Squad most likely bump into? Well, what about Batman and the Outsiders? Whos to say Batman, who is older and has had a bit more experience than the rest of the superheroes in the cinematic universe (I think hell be 51 in the movies) doesnt have a little group of his own on the side? It could be fun to see who makes a big-screen version of the Outsiders, and how they might interact with Suicide Squad, especially if the Squad arent entirely villainous. The second idea is a crossover between The Flash and Green Lantern. On film, a Green Lantern/Green Arrow crossover probably wouldnt work as well as it did on the printed page but as weve seen, Green Lantern is so steeped in science fiction that it can be problematic trying to introduce him to novice viewers at times. Its probably helpful to give him a more grounded character to bounce off of. So what better character to have Green Lantern team up with than The Flash, who is also mired in science fiction. There was a rumor, shortly before DC announced their film slate, that the pair would share the big screen ahead of Justice League but not only are they not currently scheduled for a team-up movie, Justice League is coming sooner than anyone thought. That having been said, it doesnt mean we cant have them team up after the two Justice League films though (hint hint). The third idea is a crossover between Superman and Shazam. This ones been done as an animated film and it was pretty enjoyable. One of the problems with Shazam is that so few non-comics-readers can figure out just what it is that makes him special. You have to really get your fingernails dirty a little bit to see just how different he is from Superman and putting the two of them together on screen, where theyd be seen by millions at once, would probably fix that forever. So thats a start. Also, who doesnt want to see Superman fight Dwayne Johnson (playing Black Adam). The fourth idea is a Superman/Gen 13 crossover. With Suicide Squad in the mix and Supermans somewhat contentious relationship with the military in Man of Steel, it could be interesting and cool to introduce Wildstorm characters to the DC Universe. If Supes were to encounter Gen 13, Team 7 or some other group of government-sanctioned team of superhuman characters from the Wildstorm universe, it would be amazing with a capital A. Bringing in characters with an entirely different tone and sensibility could be a way to reinvigorate the superhero movie if in another 5years, people are starting to get desensitized by all the insanity coming up on the Marvel and DC film slates. The fifth, final and probably most sensible idea is Crisis on Infinite Earths. At the end of episode 1 of The Flash, we see Harrison Wells reading an article from 2024 saying that The Flash disappears following a crisis. This is an obvious nod to the comic story line Crisis on Infinite Earths, when The Flash runs so fast that he dies to save the world. That having been said, The Flash and Arrow are set in a completely different universe from the DCCU but this can be fixed with Crisis on Infinite Earths, which was an event spanning the multiverse. It would be awesome to see the DCCUs Justice League meeting the Justice Society of America from The flash and Arrow (you might remember me saying something like this many updates ago). This idea is extremely expensive and a little bit insane but it could most definitely happen. Well, Fox has done something similar with X-Men: Days of Future Past and it worked well enough so I guess it would be fine to have Crisis on Infinite Earths. So those are my 5 ideas for film crossovers that could happen in the DCCU and beyond. What do you guys think? Do you agree with my list or do you have your own. Feel free to leave your comments below and Ill see you next year on another Daily Comic Book Force Update.
