Daily Devotion-- THE CONTENTMENT OF JESUS CONTENTMENT IS NECESSARY FOR JOY Jesus was poorer than anyone in your city—yet content—He had less and enjoyed more than anyone in your city. Contentment is realizing that God has already given me all I need for my present happiness! Jesus… Had no home (Luke 9:58). Had a large family (the Bible mentions at least six brothers and sisters). Was raised in the impoverished town of Nazareth. Once tried to eat fruit off of a fig tree. Multiplied a little boy’s lunch so they would have something to eat. Lived two thousand years ago. He had no modern conveniences, yet He never complained! Notice these verses on contentment: And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.—Luke 3:14 But godliness with contentment is great gain.—1 Timothy 6:6 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.—1 Timothy 6:8 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.—Philippians 4:19 The Apostle Paul had been shipwrecked, stoned, beaten, without food, maligned, and now was in prison. So, what does he do? God uses him to write an epistle about joy! He is awaiting execution! Paul told us that he learned to be content in Philippians 4:11–13: “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Benjamin Franklin said, “No chair is easy to the discontented.”Are you a complainer? Do you murmur? Do you tell everyone how tough you have it? Do all things and circumstances have to be just right to make you happy? The contented are content anywhere, with anything! Jesus was content. Are you?
