Daily Devotion 10-28-2013 Pastor Hugh Quinn - No Accidents, No Surprises “In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will.” (Ephesians 1:11) We see from this passage that God WORKS all things, everything, after His plan, His purpose. In short, nothing happens to us outside the perimeters of God’s will; nothing! God is never surprised, never caught off guard, never thwarted in His plans for us. Notice also that it says: “after the counsel of His own will”. This is the part that takes into account our free will. Yes, we can and often do disobey Him and act contrary to His Word which is His counsel. When that takes place, many foolishly believe they have, therefore; somehow stopped God’s plan or hindered it from happening. But the truth is, while we have put ourselves into rebellion by acting in such a manner, nevertheless; God’s plan, God’s will still unfolds. Only now it may be more of a “consequence” rather than His best for you or I. But still he already knew you would take such a rebellious path and planned accordingly. Thus, His plan unfolds regardless of our choices or put it this way, our choices mess us up, but they do not mess God up. The truth is, God’s will is being enacted in your life right now, and all the things that have happened to you are in accord with His will, because He works them that way. We cannot escape Him or hide from Him or thwart His plan. He is God and His will we be done. Yet, we are still responsible. As He said in Romans 9:19-20, “Thou will then say to me, Why does He yet find fault? For who has resisted His will? Nay, (means NO) but Oh man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to Him that formed it, why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the Potter power over the clay?” In another words, we are not to “talk back” to God, We still are held accountable to take responsibility and yet His will shall be done.
