Daily Devotion December 26 Revelation 1–3 Doxology of Christ “Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.” (Revelation 1:5) Some wonderful truths are reported of Jesus Christ in this verse. This verse speaks of Christ’s integrity, resurrection, position, affection, and ministry. Integrity. “Faithful witness.” Christ spoke the truth. His Word was always truth. He was the personification of truth and could unhesitantly say, “I am . . . the truth” (John 14:6). No one is more trustworthy than Jesus Christ. He is the easiest person to believe. Resurrection. “First begotten of the dead.” Jesus Christ arose from the grave. The Scriptures emphasize this fact repeatedly. Those who deny the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ deny the Scriptures, for the Scriptures plainly teach His resurrection. Position. “The prince of the kings of the earth.” Christ is over all. Jesus is Lord. “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow . . . and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:10, 11). “He hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16). Affection. “Unto him that loved us.” What marvelous news that this great KING OF KINGS should love us. No love ever benefited people more than the love of Christ. And no love is more undeserving than Christ’s love for us. And no love inspires so much. Paul said, “The love of Christ constraineth [compels] us” (2 Corinthians 5:14) to live for Him. Ministry. “Washed us from our sins in his own blood.” This is the greatest work of Christ. This ministry says we need to be cleansed. You do not wash that which is not dirty. Sin has made us dirty. Sin always defiles. This ministry also tells us the agent for the washing. It is the blood of Christ. No agent can wash away the stains of sin but the blood of Jesus Christ. And it can wash away every sin. “The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
