Daily Devotion by Raul Ries FRIDAY September 6, 2013 God’s Word Ephesians 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, When we first studied this verse, we looked at the three gifts of the Holy Spirit: apostles, prophets and evangelist. All the gifts are given to us by God as He desires to use each of our lives in different ways, but always with the goal of building the kingdom of God. Paul ended the verse with the gift pastor/teacher. Your Bible probably reads it as pastors and teachers. You can put a line through and, because it was added. It should be pastor/teacher. It is all one gift, not two gifts—pastor/teacher. This is so cool because here we have the purpose of the church. This is why we teach the Word of God here at Calvary Chapel, because the gift of the pastor/teacher is to teach Christians the Word of God, so they can have a closer relationship with God. If we do not know God’s Word, we will never really know God. He is revealed through His Word. When the pastor/teacher does his job, teaching the Word of God, then the work of evangelism is done as the sheep beget the sheep. Once you get the Word of God, and you get rooted and grounded in God’s Word, you are to go out and do the work of evangelism. You can invite people to church, crusades and concerts, or you can share the Word of God with them yourself, just take the time to share Jesus Christ with people. You have the great message of hope; do not keep it to yourself. I never saw a useful Christian who was not a student. Teach the tractable, command the obstinate, lay God’s charge upon all. ~John Murray~
