Daily Devotion by Raul Ries MONDAY October 28, 2013 Be a Husband First Ephesians 5:26-27 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. Husbands have a responsibility to teach their children and wives the Word of God. They need to spend time in prayer with their families, and be the leaders of their homes. That is the man’s first calling. When couples come in to speak with a pastor, the first thing we ask them is whether they are praying together. Does the husband read the Word to his wife and children? Usually, they tell us they are not in God’s Word or in prayer together. Men—if you are not doing those two things with your family, you are already failing—you have two strikes. If you do not know the Bible, you need to read the Bible and study. You can get studies on CD to learn the Bible. Then, you can sit down with your family for a few minutes: pray with them, read a chapter of the Bible and discuss the chapter. This way, you are teaching your children the importance of the Word of God, you are building your home on the Word of God and you are building your foundation on Christ. With Christ as your foundation, when a problem or a situation comes up, your wife will respect you, because you are going to go to the Lord. That is how you present your wife and your children to the Lord, without spot or wrinkle. Before man had any other calling he was called to be a husband. ~Henry Smith~
