Daily Devotion by Raul Ries Saturday - December 27, 2014 DESTROY SIN So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 1 Samuel 17:48-49 I love David. Look at his incredible faith in the Lord. As Goliath, the giant came towards him, David hurried and ran towards him. He ran towards the battle, not away from the battle. He was a brave man, because he trusted in the Lord. David ran towards Goliath, and then he took out a stone, loaded his sling and slung it at Goliath. When the stone left the sling, the Lord directed the stone, so it went right into the forehead of Goliath. It struck so hard and so fast, Goliath fell to the ground. He was done. David defeated the giant. David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling. Isn’t that cool? It was not enough to just take down the enemy. David had to make an example of him. He showed no fear. Once Goliath went down, David finished him off: Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it (1 Samuel 17:50). When God helps us defeat the flesh in our own lives, we have to finish it off. We cannot show mercy. If we allow even a little of it to survive, it will be our downfall. Instead of us defeating our flesh, our flesh will defeat us. If I grapple with sin in my own strength, the devil knows he may go to sleep. ~H. G. J. Adams~
