Daily Devotion for November 15, 2013 To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 What season are you in today? Are you in s season of anticipation, joy, sorrow, grief, happiness, fear, peace or contentment? Or do you bounce back and forth with your thoughts and emotions, not even knowing what season you are in? Dear friends, this particular scripture provides hope for us today. To everything there is a season. Some days I wonder how long some seasons will last, but I know it is only a season. I am overwhelmed this morning standing on the precious assurances and promises from God. He allows these seasons, He provides as we go through them, He is with us, sometimes holding us up, as we go through each and every season. Most important, He loves us and uses this season for His mighty purpose. Oh what hope that brings to me, I am not alone and neither are you. I encourage you today to identify your season - what is truly going through your mind and emotions? I am amazed each year as the worldly holidays approach how anxious we become. We allow this world to dictate what we should do, how we should feel and even allow the world to tell us what to do on each holiday. Commercials are filled with sales and fill our heads with the need to replace carpet, buy new furniture, purchase new furnishings, decorate our homes, buy way to much food that usually goes to waste, etc. I cannot find a Scripture telling us to celebrate any specific holiday, even Christmas. The Scripture is very clear though about celebrating Christ and His covenant. But not about celebrating it on special holidays, we are to celebrate Him daily. The Word of God is filled with seasons of trials, burdens, heartache and despair - but it also holds many encouraging truths. Read THE BOOK dear sisters and brothers and exclaim your hope in Christ. Do not give into the world and its seasons of pulling you into a temporary high. I know the holiday seasons can be very difficult, especially when your family is pulling apart, finances unbearable, death and grief even more overwhelming as the holidays approach, and the hurt and woundedness of years of abuse or pain....but the holiday is just that - a worldly day. Instead focus on celebrating the season of Christ in your life. Reach out and ask for prayer, spend your time reading the Word of God each day to get through the season. If you are in a season of joy, seek Gods direction on helping someone else. There is a purpose for each of us today, what will you do with it? I must confess, I started thinking and praying how can I get through Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, I cant wait for a few days off work to get some things done or some rest. Instead, I need to look at the season God has prepared me and use it for His glory and not my complaining. Yes, I am tired, yes I was giving in to anxiousness, and yes I began to pull away from prayer because my mind wondered away, but praise Jesus - when I open HIS BOOK, his bible filled with teachings and promises, I returned. Wont you return today even though your season may be worldly and pulling you away - reach out for the covenant, the mighty Word of God. He is the reason for seasons and our only purpose is in sharing Him with others. God bless.
